How We Got Here
I was born and raised in the city, but I spent my summers on my grandparents' farm. There I learned the true value of hard work, discipline, and the satisfaction that comes from self-sufficiency. When my wife and I started our family, we knew we wanted something different — a life close to the land, where our children could learn the lessons I had learned.
So we made a change. We found some land, started growing our own food, raised a few animals, and began learning what it actually takes to live a simpler, more fulfilling life with land and the outdoors. We're not lifelong farmers. We're people with careers and families who decided to do something different and have been documenting everything we've learned ever since.

Most asked questions
How many egg-laying chickens do I need for a family?
One hen lays about 5-6 eggs per week. For a family of 4 eating 2 eggs per person per day, you need about 6-8 hens. Start with 8 to account for broody periods, molting, and reduced winter laying.
When do I plant fruit trees?
Late winter or early spring after the ground thaws, before buds break. Fall planting works in mild climates (Zone 7+).
